Early Springs Greetings to District 5830 Rotarians. Our monthly Rotary theme is Water, Sanitation and Hygiene. Let us look around us for a service project recognizing the theme and then share the idea with all of us. March 9th to 15th is Rotaract Week. I ask each Club in the District to reach out to a Rotaract Club near it and thank them for the service they do and invite them to join one of your meetings as they are able. March 31st is the deadline to pre-register for the Rotary International Convention in Honolulu. I encourage you to come if you can. The Lone Star PETS training for 2020-2021 officers was excellent as always. As near as I could tell, everyone attending left excited to put new ideas into practice at their clubs. And, please save the dates October 30-31 for the District Conference which will be held in Jefferson. You will receive more information soon. Keep up the good work. DG Jim Finstrom
Clean water, sanitation, and hygiene education are basic necessities for a healthy environment and a productive life.
When people have access to clean water and sanitation, waterborne diseases decrease, children stay healthier and attend school more regularly, and mothers can spend less time carrying water and more time helping their families.

My thanks personally and on behalf of the District to all P. E.s and P. N.s who attended Lone Star P. E. T. S. While possible to train for club leadership outside of P.E.T.S., it is next to impossible to build the type friendships and relationships and synergy in one on one training. If you’ll pardon the sports analogy, it’s the difference between a coach cheering a team on to victory at halftime and talking to one key player at halftime. You now have the tools and know the keys players to assist you in achieving the Club Citation and more during your year.
Our District Leadership exists for you. Please use us when needed and have a fun and successful year!
PDG, VG and Foundation Chair, Ted Huffhines presented Donna Sharp, Beth Blasidell and Diane Kavanaugh with their Paul Harris Society Chervon at 2020 Lone Star PETS.
Membership is Up!! Membership is Down!! Ugh?? From July 1st through Feb 15th, 33 of 43 clubs added129 new members! Yea! But we also lost 129 members! WHAAAT? Thanks to readmitting a couple of former members, we are up a NET 2 total! See why there needs to be a constant focus on membership. The average club lost is 10% a year. Do you have a membership PLAN to gain back that loss AND GROW?
To help each club in their effort to attract and engage members, each club president, president elect and club membership chair will be contacted in the next month and given an invitation to host a District Membership Facilitator. The Facilitator has been trained to take each club through a brief process of condensing the vast number of Rotary membership strategies down to 3 strategies (each) for attraction and engagement. The club’s membership committee (5 members and the club president) chose the strategy that BEST FITS YOUR CLUB’s CULTURE. The CLUB picks what they would like to do. The second benefit, is that each club will have a PLAN for their chosen strategy when the 2-hour session concludes. The President Elects at Lone Star PETS were given a flyer outlining the process.
Congratulations to the TOP 12 of 33 clubs for new member attraction, year to date:

The universal theme with all of them is how RYLA has made them a better person and they have made lifelong friendships. They are ready willing and able to return to RYLA next year as counselors!
Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Tyler participated in a “paint by number” event at our local Carter Blood Care Facility. The project was spearheaded by the Director of Operations, Clinton McCoy, a member of our club, and Community Service Director Ashlea Wilson. Rotarians met for fellowship, dinner, and a tour of the facility prior to painting the wall that was designed by Ashlea Wilson. Clinton McCoy put the finishing touch on the wall with the Rotary Wheel and quote. Patrons are sharing positive comments when they walk into the lobby to see such a bright colorful wall and the Rotary message!

The Rotary Club of Paris United Happy Smiles Dental Program has been serving the children in Lamar County elementary schools since 2008. The club supplies portable dental sets, equipment and materials in order to provide dental exams for all Lamar County 2nd grade students – approximately 550 students. Several local dentists and staffs support the program. They perform the exams and apply sealants as needed. This is the only dental exam some students receive. The schools, parent and students have been very appreciative.

The iron lung is ready for display by clubs for special events! Check the District Calendar for availability. Contact DA Shirley Pinnix-Evans to reserve the Iron Lung.
Please furnish a copy of the driver's license of the individual to pick up the trailer, a copy of their insurance card and the location, date, and name of event. Towing vehicle for the trailer requires a 2 inch ball and has a plug-in pigtail to hook up lights. Shirley will need a pick up and return date. Contact information for DA Shirley: rotary5830da@gmail.com or 903-787-8275. Each community can only have a priority request for the same event once a year, but they can make a request for the same event every year on the off chance that no one else will want the trailer for that same date.
