CLUBRUNNER SUPPORT: Call 1-877-469-2582; Option 2 These people are so NICE and helpful and know how to do the ABC,123 of helping you . They are patient and really listen. Try them, I have - many times!
So far I have been to twelve clubs in our District 5830 and I am so impressed with what I have seen! All the clubs I have visited are vibrant, have all their goals lined up and are having fun! Rotarians are the most welcoming and warmest people I have ever met; of course I figured that before I even started this endeavor. The best part is that I get to meet so many more Rotarians than I did as an Assistant Governor.
During the month of August, I will be on the road again visiting one club (sometimes two) every day. If you haven't seen me yet, you will soon!!
Greg Hollen is the new Mineola City Alderman representing Ward 2, replacing Jack Newman.
Hollen and Allene Doggett were each nominated for the position and Mayor Kevin White had to break a tie vote at the June city council meeting.
Hollen and his wife, Carol, had been weekend residents in Mineola (Lake Holbrook) beginning in 2002, and moved to Mineola full time in 2015. Hollen is a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mineola, and is active in the United Methodist Men and choir. Current community roles include Mineola’s Landmark Commission Board, Wood County Crimestopper’s Board, the Friends of Lake Holbrook Board, the APET-SPCA Board and the Bread of Life Food Pantry Ministry Board. He is also about to enter his second term in July as president of the Mineola Rotary Club.
Hollen is excited about serving the city. “I am honored to serve the people of Mineola, where my family and I are fortunate to reside. I will dedicate myself to the vibrant community that is Mineola, and look forward to working with the mayor, city council and city employees,” Hollen stated.
Hollen served Quitman as City Secretary/Administrator, and was responsible for managing all aspects of the city’s administration, including two budget submissions (2016 & 2017), all administrative hiring in finance, court and utility departments. His role included water and waste treatment plant construction project oversight (w/KSA Engineerings), IT and security upgrades, and implementation of employee payroll and benefits enhancements. He also recruited for and re-launched the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission, and had a role in returning Carroll Green Civic Center to profitability.
He served 10 years on the University of North Texas Business School Advisory Board and as a mentor for the Professional Leadership Program (PLP) and was recognized with the business school’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015. Hollen holds the Senior Professional Human Resources designation (SPHR) as well as the Certified Non-Profit Professional (CNP). He received a Bachelor of Arts in Government and Politics with a focus on state and local government from the University of Maryland.
Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is a book gifting program that mails free, high-quality books to children from birth until they begin school, no matter their family’s income.
Jefferson, Texas Rotary Club has made the Imagination Library one of their community project.
After launching in 1995, the program grew quickly. First books were only distributed to children living in Sevier County, Tennessee where Dolly grew up. It became such a success that in 2000 a national replication effort was underway. By 2003, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library had mailed one million books. It would prove to be the first of many millions of books sent to children around the world.
Dolly’s home state of Tennessee pledged to pursue statewide coverage in 2004 and global expansion was on the horizon. After the United States, the program launched in Canada in 2006 followed by the United Kingdom in 2007 and Australia joined in 2013.
