Randy Sams Shelter was established as a homeless shelter by the Sams family in memory of their son.  The shelter provides breakfast and dinner, along with separated sleeping areas for men and women.  They also provide limited vocational training, life skills and counseling.  Evening meals are provided by churches and other civic organizations, along with food donations from restaurants and food pantries.  Residents are assigned case managers and are enrolled in 90 day programs of assistance.
Since the establishment of Randy Sams Shelter, in 1996, Wilbur Smith Rotary has been providing an evening meal on the first Monday of each month to clients at the homeless shelter.  They have had a number of dedicated coordinators and volunteers for these many years.  Coordinators have included Jerry Sparks, Josephine Kaylor, Robert Koons and David Vershaw.  The core cadre of volunteers includes Joel Campisi, Josephine Kaylor, Larry Oxford, Tom Sadowski, Jerry Voss and Brian Goesel.  Other club members join in, as their schedule permits.  All of the servers agree that this is rewarding and time well spent.
