Congratulations and WELL DONE to PDG Lee Montgomery. He has served District 5830 well in the position of Membership Chair. I appreciate all he's done and look forward to carrying the torch into the new Rotary year and beyond.
I am excited to step into the role of Membership Chair. When, at the time, DGE Karen Maines asked me to consider serving at the district level, I was very hesitant. My initial response to her was "that sounds scary." I had thoughts like "I don't have time" and "I don't know enough". A short time later I heard her give a presentation where she mentioned how she had never volunteered for anything in Rotary. Every position has always been asked of her, and she's continued to say yes. She went on to say how much of a blessing it has been for her life. As I thought about this, my story is similar. Anything I've done in Rotary so far has been to "help" someone else out. While it's been difficult at times, I've learned so much, found new ways to serve others, and built so many great relationships. I trust this new role will be no different.

As we move into a new Rotary year, I think it's vital to focus on building and maintaining relationships. While it will be expensive (time, money, etc) at times, please remember that it is an investment into the success and growth of our Rotary clubs. I encourage each of us to think of one or two people who would be a good fit for our club that we can personally ask to join Rotary. For those who are already in our club, find a way to "dig a little deeper" and get to know them better. For some, this will cause us to work outside our comfort zone. However, you just might find a deep lifelong friendship or a different way you can serve together that you wouldn't have known about otherwise.

Again, thank you for the opportunity and I look forward to serving District 5830 as Membership Chair.

Regards,
Landon Forbes
