October is Community Economic Development Month, and it reminds me of something I have come to appreciate more and more during my years in Rotary: sometimes the greatest gift we can give is not simply helping someone today, but giving them the opportunity to build a better tomorrow. When Rotary provides vocational training, supports a small business, creates jobs, or helps families become financially self-sufficient, we are giving something very powerful—hope, dignity, and opportunity. I am so proud of the generous Rotarians of District 5830 who continue to make these life-changing projects possible, both here at home and around the world.
As your District Foundation Chair, I also want to personally encourage you to consider Rotary Direct. I believe so strongly in The Rotary Foundation and what we accomplish together, and Rotary Direct is such an easy way to make giving a regular part of our Rotary lives. Whether it is $10 a month or an amount that is comfortable for you, those gifts add up—and they come back to communities through projects that truly change lives. If you haven’t joined Rotary Direct yet, I hope you will consider doing so. None of us has to change the world alone. But when Rotarians give a little, regularly and together, just imagine what we can accomplish.
