Hello, February— when we celebrate Valentine’s Day on the 14th and Rotary’s 119th Birthday on the 23rd. February is also Rotary’s Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention Month. It’s no surprise that Rotarians are some of the best at finding ways to build peace and understanding between people from very different backgrounds, cultures, traditions, and languages. Rotary is a global peacebuilding team!
On February 6th, the Longview Greggton Rotary Club and Rotarians from all across District 5830 are joining together in Longview for a Mental Health Summit. This will be a significant “status and opinion-gathering” event for the community and area, meshing with Rotary International President Gordon McInally’s focus on Mental Health. In these difficult times, one thing we can do is work together to learn the best ways to serve and help individuals with mental health challenges.

It’s February-- and time is flying by! Wasn’t Christmas just—yesterday? By now we should be used to typing 2024 and realizing that there are only five months left in this Rotary year! How are your clubs doing in attaining the goals that were set last summer? I’m circling back and touching base with club Presidents, asking how District 5830 leadership can be of service in achieving those goals, and doing my best to encourage and inspire.

It's already February—and as we began looking forward to 2024-25, our To-Do Lists should include these important events—
  • Registering for Lone Star and 5830 Local President Elect Training Seminars. This includes our President-Elects, President Nominees, and District Assistant Governors. This focused training is so essential for our clubs that Early Registration costs will be reimbursed.
  • Registering for the Joint District Conference in Durant, Oklahoma, April 26-28. This event is open to ALL Rotarians, spouse/partners, and families. Our Foundation Dinner Celebration will be held on Saturday, so plan to be there. Time in meetings is short to enable everyone to enjoy the resort and the activities in the surrounding area.
  • Marking your calendars for District Training on May 18. This is recommended for all Rotary club members, not just incoming Officers. All attendees will learn something, and the newest club members should definitely plan to attend.

February—It’s a great month to be a Rotarian!
