“It’s the most wonderful time of the year!”… we can expect to hear that holiday song a few times in December. Sometimes, it feels like “the most hectic time of the year”. So many things to do! In addition to all of the things on our personal lists, our Rotary clubs are super busy, as well, with service to our communities through toy drives, food distribution events, bell ringing, gift wrap parties, and dinners for those in need, to name just a few.
And yet, no matter how tired we get, Rotarians can be counted on to fulfill the promises made, because we have a “servant’s heart”, and because we know how good we’re going to feel when we’ve completed those projects.

After a few days to recover with family and friends, and eat lots of pie, Rotarians are ready to go again! The “to do” lists are waiting in January. In addition to upcoming club projects and service, it’s time to register for Lone Star President-Elect Training; time to get next year’s officers trained; time for goals to be met; time to plan for 2024-25!

Yes, Rotarians are busy this time of year and all year ‘round, because that’s who we are, and we love it.

As I have visited the District 5830 clubs, I’ve noticed a familiar theme: people joined Rotary for simple, practical reasons: they were told to by their employer, or they wanted to build a professional network, or they were new in town and wanted to make connections. Every single Rotarian who said they joined for one of those reasons, then says that they have remained in Rotary for completely different reasons. “The service opportunity”. “Helping my community”. “Rotary is my family”. “I see what Rotary does in the world”. “Rotary’s focus on polio eradication”. “Rotary’s theme of Service Above Self”.

During this “most wonderful time of the year”, stop and thank each other for your hard work and sacrifices, and then, invite someone to join your club. Give the Gift of Rotary. You already know that it’s the perfect gift. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
