Creating Impact in Our Communities
October is here, and once again I find myself wondering, “Where did the time go?” This Rotary year is moving quickly, but the energy and enthusiasm I am seeing throughout District 5830 continue to grow.
One of the greatest joys of serving as your District Governor is visiting our clubs. Every visit has been a little different, and that is exactly what makes District 5830 so special. I have enjoyed getting to know Rotarians, hearing your stories, learning about your projects, and seeing firsthand the ways you are making a difference in your communities.
October is Economic and Community Development Month, a wonderful reminder that strong communities are built when people have opportunities to succeed. Rotary encourages us to support entrepreneurs, develop skills, create meaningful employment opportunities, and strengthen the people and organizations that help our communities thrive.
As you plan your October service, think about the needs right in your own backyard. Who could use a hand getting started? What local organization is helping people become self-sufficient? What partnership could your club build that creates an opportunity rather than simply addressing a need?
And while we are talking about community impact, October 24 is World Polio Day.
I encourage every club in District 5830 to find a way to make some noise for End Polio Now. Host a fundraiser, organize a walk, dedicate a club meeting to polio, share information on social media, light up a local landmark, or simply tell the Rotary story. Awareness matters, and so does publicity. Rotary has helped immunize billions of children and has been at the center of the global effort to eradicate polio for decades.
If your club is doing something for World Polio Day, please let us know; then tell your community! Our work deserves to be seen and our communities deserve to know what Rotary is doing.
Celebrating 100 Years of Service
A very special congratulations goes to the Atlanta Area Rotary Club, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year! The club's history dates back to 1926, and the District is celebrating this incredible milestone with the club on October 8.
One hundred years of Service Above Self is an amazing legacy—and an even more exciting foundation for the next 100 years. Congratulations, Atlanta Area Rotarians!
Learning, Connecting and Growing
A huge thank-you to Vice Governor Lee Montgomery for organizing the recent Rotary Leadership Institute training in Shreveport and bringing together 18 District 5830 Rotarians for the experience.
Leadership development is one of the ways we invest in the future of our clubs and our district. I love seeing Rotarians take advantage of opportunities to learn, connect, and bring new ideas home to their clubs.
And finally, mark your calendars for November 7 for our District 5830 Foundation Dinner! This will be a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the generosity and accomplishments of our clubs and Rotarians.
Keep those raffle tickets moving! If you haven't purchased yours yet, now is the time. Let's make this a night to celebrate the incredible impact our District 5830 Rotarians are creating through their generosity.
Every club visit, every service project, every new connection, every dollar given to The Rotary Foundation, and every conversation about polio adds another piece to the bigger picture.
We are not simply having a busy Rotary year.
We are creating lasting impact—together.
I can't wait to see what District 5830 does next!
