Mount Pleasant Rotary Club is hosting the Annual Four Way Test Speech and Video contests on April 1 at the Mount Pleasant ISD Administration Building.  

Theme for both Contests:  "How is the Rotary Four Way Test relevant to Rotarians Serving Humanity?"

Information on registration for both contests is found below. Registration is at 8 a.m. and contests begin at 9 a.m.  The registration fee for attendance to either event is $50 which takes care of the student and the sponsoring Rotarian.  Please remit $15 each for parents, family, and guests to cover the cost of breakfast and lunch.

GENERAL INFORMATION
  1. There will be 3-5 qualified judges.
  2. The winners will be invited to give their speeches at the District Conference in May, location to be announced.   Plan on attending if you are a winner.
  3. Judges will not know the contestants’ names or school:  each contestant will be assigned a number
  4. Contestants will be introduced by name after the judging is completed.
  5. The district committee will provide a timer to keep each speaker/contestant aware of the time elapsed.
  6. The winners will be announced shortly after all judging is complete and scores are tabulated.
  7. Awards will be plaques and scholarships as follows:  $1000 for first place; $750 for second place, $500 for third place.  Scholarships will be given to the college in the students’ names at the time of the contestants’ enrollment in the college of his/her choice.  Enrollment verification should be mailed to the District Treasurer:

  1. Judging will be on a point system according to the accepted rules of public speaking. 
  2. Rules for the contest are based on procedures published by the Four-Way Test Association, 1233 E. South Blvd, Montgomery, AL 36116.  Additional information may be obtained by writing to the association.
  3. Speech candidates are individuals, not team presentations.
  4. The speeches must be a minimum of 5 minutes in duration, and no more than 7 minutes in length. Speech presenters whose presentations fall outside of these limits are automatically disqualified.
  5. The speeches must develop this year’s theme:  "How is the Rotary Four Way Test relevant to Rotarians Serving Humanity?"
  6. Speeches are expected to uphold the highest standards of appropriate content.
  7. Mail checks made payable to The Rotary Club of Mount Pleasant, along with the Registration Form, to Amy Hinton no later than March 20th:

Annual District 5830 Video Four Way Test Contest Rules and Registration Information
 
We are looking forward to this event and are keeping our creative twist this year with a 4-Way Test Video Contest.  (think YouTube).  We are hearing of HS students who have caught fire; producing their own video productions; competing in a parallel “flight” to the speech contest competition."
 
We are seeking videos from high school students located within District 5830’s boundaries of Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas.   We will run this competition concurrently with the Four Way Speech Contest in Mount Pleasant at the Mount Pleasant ISD Administration Building.
 
The rules are as follows:
 
Student Eligibility:
  • The student submitting the video must currently attend a school within Rotary's District 5830 and be a freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior.
  • The student cannot have been a past 1st place winner of the District 5830 4 Way Speech Scholarship Contest.
  • Relatives of Rotarians are eligible and encouraged to participate.
  • Videos must be student created. Adult mentorship is allowed, but the video must be the students’ work.
     
Video Specifications:
  • Videos may be submitted individually or by up to two students per video team.  Multiple entries by a given student or team are not acceptable.
  • The video must be between 2 - 3 minutes in length. Any portion of the video that extends past 3 minutes will not be considered.
  • The video must develop this year’s theme:  “The 4-Way Test: "How is the Rotary Four Way Test relevant to Rotarians Serving Humanity?" This may be done with music, dance, etc. but the 4 way test must be included and applied within the video. Be creative. Be fun. Be YOU!
  • All qualifying videos will be uploaded for voting.
  • Videos are expected to reflect the highest spirit of appropriate content. 
Video Submission for Consideration: Please upload your video to YouTube then send in the link via email to DG Lee Montgomery at d5830leem1617@gmail.com by the deadline date of Friday, March 25, 2017.  Within the email, please also include the registration information with the student's name, school attending, grade/year in school, parent or guardian's name, phone number and email where student can be reached regarding the scholarship contest. Video Scholarship Awards: Three $500 awards will be announced on Saturday, April 1st at the Rotary 4-Way Test Speech and Video Contest in Mount Pleasant, TX. The three awards are as follows:
  • “First Place” will be given to the student whose video is judged best overall by the panel of judges in terms of content, application to the Theme, creative use of media, etc.
  • "Rotarian Spirit Award" will be given to the video that most encompasses the spirit of Rotary and meets the criteria above
  • "Out of the Box Award" will be presented to the student who exhibits the most creativity in making this video.
