District Governor’s Newsletter- April 2018

This is a busy time of year for clubs in District 5830. There are numerous projects and fund raisers going on all across our district. Rotarians are “Making a Difference” in so many ways, and it is very encouraging to see the hard work being done. We also have our District Training Assembly on April 21st at North East Community College in Mt. Pleasant. I encourage all clubs to be represented at this district wide event! Gather your club officers and come join in the excellent training that will be provided! DG Elect, Judy Guthrie, has a wonderful program planned! The last Saturday of the month, April 28th, we will be holding the District 4-Way Speech Contest in Mt. Pleasant at the MPISD Administration Building. This is a great opportunity to see some of the top students in northeast Texas as they share how living the 4-Way Test helps one Make a Difference! We owe a huge “thank you” to the Mt. Pleasant Rotary Club for hosting this event again this year.

Every club should have received the information on the Membership Contest we are holding over the last three months of the Rotary Year- April, May & June. Make every effort to grow your club over these last three months. We have cash prizes for the winners along with banners and plaques. Contact your Assistant Governor or myself if you need help in identifying potential new members or attracting potential new members for your club. We are eager to help! You can also go to rotary.org website or the rizones30-31.org website for additional assistance and ideas on membership. The contest is set up so that large and small clubs have the opportunity to win!  Why shouldn’t it be Your Club that wins!
We already have several clubs who have met the requirements for the Rotary Citation! Congratulations to those clubs. There is still time to achieve this recognition. Work together and get it done!

Blake White has been accepted as the recipient of the Global Scholar Scholarship Grant from District 5830. Blake is a graduate of Texas A&M University and plans to pursue a Masters from King’s College in London, England focusing on peace and conflict resolution. He intends to pursue a career with the U.S. State Department. This a great opportunity for Blake, and it is also a wonderful opportunity for our district to provide support for this much needed cause. I appreciate the work of PDG’s Lee Montgomery and Carroll Greenwaldt and DGN Jim Finstrom for serving as the interview committee and working through this process.

Please plan to attend the Installation for our next District Governor, Judy Guthrie, on June 16th in Carthage. This is always a fun event and great opportunity to see your friends from around the district. Put that date on your calendar!

I look forward to seeing you as I come around to the different club events this spring. Please reach out to me if you are having an event that I can come and support!
