Janet Hufnagel Thompson

In 1992, Janet Hufnagel of Hugo, Oklahoma, was awarded an Ambassadorial Scholarship and attended Wye College in England.

After her year abroad, Janet returned to the U.S.A. and began work.  Along the way, she met Matt Thompson to whom she married.  In 1997, before they were married, they sat down and compiled a list of things that they would like to accomplish in their lifetime.  One of the things on this list was Drive the Pan-American Highway to the tip of South America.

On May 1, 1998, Janet was terminated due to downsizing.  She was devastated.  In discussing what to do, Matt said "Lets Do it". Janet said, "Do What?" and Matt said "Drive to the tip of South America".

On July 1, Matt resigned his job and they sold their home and on August 15, they left in their 1997 Ford Explorer to drive to the tip of South America.

This adventure took nearly a year and when they returned to the United States, they started a cattle operation near Hugo, Oklahoma.  They published a book about their experiences.

In 2001, Matt and Janet moved to Australia and started a custom cattle feedlot located south of Narrogin, Western Australia, 2 hours inland from Perth. Along the way, there were four children born to Janet and Matt.

Both Matt and Janet are involved in Rotary in Australia.
